Have you ever been in a Submarine?
Like a real one in the real ocean, not some ride at a theme park?
Not me, and honestly I had no plans to do so. That is until we booked a cruise that stopped in Cozumel, we were researching unique things to do in Cozumel with kids and Atlantis Submarines popped up! All of a sudden riding in a real submarine was screaming my name! “Come on Jenn, Book me”
You have to add this amazing adventure to your Bucket List! Atlantis Submarine takes you in the Ocean in a real submarine for the experience of a lifetime!
At first I was a bit nervous since I was unsure of what to expect and really this is an experience you can’t control, once you get into the submarine you are really stuck in there in the deep blue sea. The staff was well trained and very friendly. They provided all the necessary safety training before boarding the transport boat that takes you to submarine.
**If you get Seasick prepare ahead of time – the transport boat can be rough if the seas are rough**
**Amazon Affiliate links in this post -I may make a small commission but costs you nothing additional**
So you are on this transport boat for about a ten minute ride. The boat stops in the middle of the ocean but there is no submarine anywhere in sight. So here I am with my kids in Mexico thinking oh great what did we get ourselves into. But then out of nowhere the sub starts to emerge from the water! This was such a cool sight. You see the little top and slowly the whole submarine emerges. Once the sub is secured to the transport boat they put a bridge across to connect the two and you hop on and climb on in! Once the sub is closed and cleared it descends right back into the ocean not leaving a trace!
Finally once we were in the deep blue sea the actual submarine tour started. The crew was great with pointing out the different kinds of fish and the different corals. They even had cards for each passenger with all the different types of fish with pictures for you to identify each fish as we cruised along!
So picture this we are now about 80ft below the ocean’s surface and they started playing the music from Jaw’s. The crew had a twisted sense of humor but oh course it was all in good fun!
The submarine has a digital reading inside that tells you how far below you are. At the furthest point we were 110ft below the surface!
Holy moly, never did I think I would be that far under water and still dry!
We saw everything from small fish to giant fish, stingrays, and even a sea turtle. They also took us to a big coral reef, who knew rocks could be so beautiful! Its a whole different world in the deep blue sea! Before we headed back, we saw a sunken ship. This 154ft ship use to be a US Navy Ship but was sold to the Mexican Navy. Only the best divers make it to a ship wreck like this but thanks to my Submarine ride I didn’t even have to get in those waters, because lets be real this mama is not going that deep in the Mexican sea or any ocean for that matter!
(The lighting inside the submarine is really wacky, making it a little hard to get decent pictures)
Atlantis Submarines has submarines in Cozumel, Aruba, Hawaii, Grand Cayman, Guam, St. Thomas and Barbados!
If you are going to any of these destinations in the future, check out Atlantis Submarines!
This adventure is truly one you and your children will never forget, I promise!
**Mom Tip : Buy the picture they are selling, It is a great keepsake and I think I only paid about $12 for it**

It sounds like a great trip for kids, but I don’t think I could do it. I get claustrophobic, and add trapped underwater, and I’d probably have a panic attack!

I was a bit nervous to have no control of the situation but it was a great time!

This looks like an amazing trip and the price is very much affordable too! However this is definitely not for me. Bit scared of tight spaces and don’t like the idea of going under the sea!

This looks super fun! It doesn’t look like it would feel a whole lot different than riding a boat or one of those aquarium exhibits where they have a tunnel through the tank. Just added riding in a submarine to my bucket list haha.

Wow! What an experience. We have seen a real submarine from inside at Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in NYC but that’s far from real. Being able to experience sea life so closely must have been awesome. Kids look so excited and happy. I’m sure my daughter would love it. I have added this adventure to my bucket list.
