Those who really know me know my passion for our local Children’s Hospitals here in South Florida! For the past 7 years my youngest has been in and out of the hospital for numerous neurological and intestinal issues. We have stayed anywhere from a few nights to a few weeks. She has been admitted into Broward General, Joe DiMaggio, Miami Children’s, Holtz/Jackson and even Boston Children’s.
Believe me when I tell you, those hospital rooms can get pretty lonely and depressing for both mom and child. The one thing that always perked my daughter up was visitors and small gifts. Yes family and friends are great visitors but it is the unexpected strangers who send a small gift that really makes you think “WOW, the world really does have great people out there”!
A few years ago I decided we have to find a way to bring smiles to these kids in the hospital. Now I may not know these children, not even their names or faces But I know what they are going through. If I can bring just one smile to their world for the day, my job is done!
This is a big job and I can not do it alone! I invite each and everyone of you to join me, even if it is just one coloring book and one pack of crayons! I promise you every single one makes a difference!
The best part is you can get your kids involved! Take them shopping with you and explain to them what you are doing and who the coloring books are going to. I promise you the kids will really stop and think about the activity!
Not Local but still want to help?

This is a really nice initiative. Hospitals can indeed be depressing and also scary. I remember when I was a kid, I stayed in hospital for few days and I was left all by myself… time was going by so slowly. Surely, coloring would have made it easier!

I love seeing people help sick children. It is so difficult for them, but people like you make them feel so much better than medicine could.

This is a lovely idea! I’ve been in hospital with my eldest a few times and it’s horrible for the kids. A colouring book would really cheer her up. Great idea!

What a fabulous idea to collect coloring books and crayons for the children’s hospital. It’s hard being a patient stuck in a room for days, weeks or even longer. My prayers go out to all the children who are being treated at hospitals everywhere. They could use a book drive like this.
