We decided to take a last minute road trip to St Augustine for the weekend. Bring stuck in a car with two kids asking are we there yet isn’t my favorite way to travel but the trip wasn’t too bad. St. Augustine was about a 4 hour drive from South Florida and well worth it. St Augustine is well know for being the oldest city in the US, founded in 1565! We had so much fun exploring St. Augustine and the surrounding areas!
Here are some of our top picks of things to do in St. Augustine:
My first suggestion when traveling anywhere is Check Groupon! I do see things to do in St Augustine on Groupon Often!
St Augustine Lighthouse & Museum – After you tour the lighthouse, you can play on the shipwrecked playground or explore the nature trails.
Old Town Trolley – Old Town Trolley is a great way to get around. This trolley offers unlimited hop on and hop off. They also offer a night time tour called ghosts and gravestones.
Potter’s Wax Museum – Potter’s wax museum is known as America’s first wax museum. They are constantly updating their celebrity collection of life size wax figures.
Oldest Wooden School House – Tour the oldest wooden school house and see how the children of the 1700’s attended school, it sure is a lot different than the schools we know today! Your kids will even get a graduation diploma after the school tour!
Castillo de San Marcos – This beautiful fort overlooks the downtown area! You can walk through the inside for a small price or walk around the edges for free. Such a pretty view to take in especially at sunset!
The Beach – St Augustine and the surrounding areas have some pretty awesome beaches. We were even able to find shark teeth right on the shore! Pack a lunch and make a whole FREE day at the beach!
Colonial Oak Music Park – Enjoy Live Music outdoors, some nights they have outdoor movies. Check their Facebook page and event for more info.
Our favorite Places to Eat in the Area :
The Floridian – This cute house off the back streets was also one of our favorite picks for dinner! We had TACOS DE VERANO (Braised beef brisket in pepperjack-stuffed corn tortillas). Yes, they were as good as they sound! So Yummy, and my drink of choice was the Punch! Stop by the Floridian for lunch or dinner!
Sweet Pete’s Jacksonville – if you have time take the 30 minute drive to Jacksonville and visit Sweet Pete’s. This amazing Candy Shop and cafe was featured on the TV show “The Profit”. This place was so cool they deserved their own blog post! Check it out HERE!
